Dr. Rania Mousa General Medicine
concerning pre marriage tests
-the tests that can be done are the tests for sexually transmitted disease and infectious diseases ,since they will be transmitted to the partner and then to children too.the standard premarital blood tests check for evidence of syphilis (now or in the past) and rubella (German measles). Screening for other diseases has in some cases included tuberculosis, gonorrhea, and HIV.
-It is advised that people getting married should take a simple blood test and ensure that both the partners are not carrying the Thalassemia trait in order not to have thalasemic children
YET predicting having abnormal babies or not is not routinely made ,but done in certain couples where one of them have genetic abnormalities through their family ,or when there is any concern of a certain disease present in family through genes and these tests are asked by the couples not routinely made specifying what genetic test to be done .and then you need genetic counselor and interpreter for that and this costs a lot ,and will not give you a gaurantee you will not have abnormal kids there are other factors and you cant test for all genetic diseases.
