31 YO Female, perfomed Gastric Banding 2002- the past 3-4 yrs I decreased my BMI from 37-24-I frequently feel pain near the band & vomit after some meals - is it time to remove the band - Thank YOU
your band offered you an excellent weight reduction. what you feel now should be seriously investigated in order to exclude one of the band complication called "migration" which is the penetration of the band into your stomach. i think it is time to visit your surgeon who applied the band and discuss with him your symptoms.
you must be investigated by your bariatric surgeon to rule out:
Erosion of the band: The band may slowly migrate through the stomach wall. This will result in the band moving from the outside of the stomach to the inside. This may occur silently but can cause severe problems.
Slippage of the band: An unusual occurrence in which the lower part of the stomach may prolapse through the band causing an enlarged upper pouch, this can cause obstruction .
before any removal surgery of the band if necessary two exams are to be done : a gastroscopy and an orally ingested contrast material such as barium.
