2 more questions about Temporomandibular Disorders : are fibromyalgia patients more prone to have it? and does getting braces heal it better than with only the splint? thanks
Aug 11, 2014

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
True, individuals with fibromyalgia are more prone to have comorbid conditions, TMD is one of them (they also have a higher chance of having irritable bowel syndrome, tension headache among others).
Regarding the choice of treatment and how fast and well TMD will heal, again it depends on the underlying dysfunction and the extent of damage to the involved muscles and joint.
