Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
Why are you on Glucophage? This drug is made up of two components: a sulfonyl urea, which is an oral hypoglycemic agent that causes a drop in blood sugar, and metformin, which prevents the rise in blood sugar by reducing sugar absorption in the intestines. This drug is used in people with diabetes and weight problems and you MUST NOT use it without a doctor's prescription. The episodes of dizziness, fatigue and cold extremities (hands and feet) are indicative of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level below, usually less than 60) caused by the sulfonyl urea component of Glucophage. I urge you not to use this drug based on self-prescription.
